Our team

NPK Recovery was founded with the vision to transform the wastewater disposal system into a waste reuse system, playing a role in the circular economy. Thanks to funding from Defra, Innovate UK and Co-op Carbon Innovation Fund, our founder Hannah has built a team of scientists, engineers and researchers to bring to life the idea of urine reuse in the UK.

Hannah Van Den Bergh, Director and Founder

After working as an environmental consultant, I was captivated by circular economy models as pioneered by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, and began investigating opportunities and challenges for the circular economy in the UK. Fascinated by the waste economy and who decides what constitutes “waste”, I began researching where human waste reuse models were already working well. I was inspired by the work of the Rich Earth Institute and the design of source-separating toilets in projects supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Now, with our growing team, we’re working to make urine reuse a reality here in the UK
